Saint Nicholas

Saint Nicholas is a saint, for both the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Nicholas was born a greek in 270 A.D. in Asian Minor modern day Turkey. Saint Nicholas is the patron of Sailors, mechants, archers thieves, children and students. He is known as a very generous and kind person an example is that people left their empty shoes and he left money for them. He became the model of Santa Claus because of his generous deeds. Nicholas was also given the name Nikolaos the wonderworker since many miracles attributed to his intercession. Nicholas became the patron of many harbours and docks in towns all over greece and Rome because he protected them while sailing.

Nicholas was known to be born to wealthy parents in Asian minor as a young boy he was very intrested in religion and Christianity. His parents died while he was still young form and epidemic so he was raised by his uncle.

Saint Nicholas preformed miracles during his life, he preformed a miracle when he unloaded wheat from the emperors boat, to help people deal with a famine. When the emperors boat reached constantinople it was still the same weight before he unloaded the wheat. He unloaded enough to feed the people for two years.

Saint Nicholas was awarded his own day on december the 6th because of his great generosity and miracles he preformed for people.
